A man was worried some old Premium Bonds and any potential prizes would be “left in limbo” as he was struggling to track them down.

He contacted provider NS&I about the issue over X to voice his frustration saying: “I am having great difficulty entering my date of birth on the Premium Bond tracing form.”

NS&I responded to first ask if he was inputting the date in the correct date/month/year format.

The man then said: “I have now realised what I was doing wrong, but I was then told the date was invalid, even though it came off the NS&I calendar.”

He further explained that some of the Bonds date back many years and were in the names of different family members with different addresses.

He said: “I can give all the names and addresses, but marrying them to the right bonds is pretty impossible.”

But NS&I warned that the variety of Bonds he was trying to track down may be a problem, stating: “We only allow people to run a trace for Bonds held in their own name.

“If there are any Bonds that are held in someone else’s name, it would be that persons responsibility to run a trace for themselves.”

The frustrated man said: “Therein lies the problem. As I said, I can’t tie most of them to their individual owners. So is this money and any winnings left in limbo?”

There is an online form on the NS&I website that you can use to try and track down any lost NS&I savings.

It may be worth checking for any lost Bonds as you may have one or more prizes to collect.

Recent figures from NS&I showed there are a total of 2.4 million prizes still waiting to be claimed.

This includes several large prize amounts for £100,000, £50,000 and £10,000.

Each £1 Bond has an equal chance of being selected for a prize, including one of the jackpot prizes for £1million.
