Russian airfield ‘blown up’ as Ukraine launches attacks | World | News
Ukraine launched dozens of drones into the Russian territory in the early hours of June 21, reportedly striking an airfield.
The Russian Defence Ministry claimed on Friday to have intercepted 114 drones launched by Kyiv over Crimea, illegally occupied by Moscow since 2014, the Krasnodar region and Volgograd, both in western Russia.
Clips circulating on social media platform Telegram showed huge fires and smoke rising from various facilities, including an oil refinery in the Severski district.
One clip shared by the Russian news outlet Astra shows bright red flames raging in Yeysk. The news outlet said: “A fire is reported in Yeysk after a UAV attack. There is no official information yet.”
The news outlet also shared a statement by the operational headquarters of the Krasnodar region, saying the attack didn’t cause civilian casualties or damages to civilian infrastructure.
Pro-Ukrainian accounts, including Crimean Wind, have claimed citing satellite imagery data that “multiple” blazes erupted at the local airfield.
Crimean Wind added: “Fires were reported in the area of buildings near the eastern end of the runway. These buildings clearly belong to the airfield; their purpose is unknown.”
The account also claimed a fire had erupted overnight at a oil refinery in Krasnodar. The Kyiv Post reported the attack there resulted in two injuries.
Moreover, the Ministry of Defense alleged its naval aviation forces part of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed six unmanned Ukrainian boats in the northwestern region of the Black Sea.
Ukraine hasn’t yet commented on these attacks, and Express.co.uk could not independently verify these reports.
Ukraine has intensified its attacks on the Russian territory in recent months, targeting in particular sensitive military targets such as airfields and energy facilities.
